Software Engineer II - Grand Rapids, MI Onsite

Build and support configurable SaaS solutions that help manufacturing customers advance digital transformation. This onsite role covers customer implementations, testing, documentation, technical support, and ongoing software improvements.

Description

  • Create standardized yet configurable software solutions that deliver strong customer outcomes
  • Implement technical solutions tailored to customer needs
  • Maintain and enhance existing solutions based on business priorities
  • Evaluate existing software and recommend practical improvements
  • Manage and prioritize opportunities from marketing, outside sales, and national accounts
  • Coordinate workflows and competing priorities effectively
  • Provide prompt status updates to internal and external stakeholders
  • Help scope and price customer opportunities
  • Deliver technical support for deployed solutions
  • Use products from strategic partners to increase company value
  • Redeploy the team’s standard software solutions
  • Maintain software repositories, including GitHub
  • Follow program documentation and version-control standards
  • Partner with QA engineers on unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
  • Stay informed about industry developments, technologies, and engineering practices
  • Support requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance throughout the software lifecycle
  • Take part in Scrum or Kanban ceremonies, sprint planning, and retrospectives
  • Document software designs, architecture, and processes
  • Help create standard operating procedures for software engineering work
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior team members
  • Report to the Professional Services Manager
  • Handle additional duties as assigned

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience as a software engineer or in a comparable role, supported by a strong portfolio of software projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, or substantial equivalent professional experience
  • Experience using Microsoft Office
  • Capacity to learn new software tools and systems
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Java, Python, C++, or JavaScript
  • Working familiarity with software development tools and Git-based version control
  • Strong organizational skills and careful attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and reprioritize when needed
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving, and sometimes ambiguous environment
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across functions
  • Commitment to providing excellent service to internal and external customers
  • Strong problem-solving ability for analyzing and resolving complex technical issues
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to sit, speak, hear, stand, walk, and climb stairs, with reasonable accommodations available
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%
  • Valid driver’s license that can be maintained
  • Experience with Plex, Fiix, FactoryTalk Optix, or other SCADA software is preferred but not required
  • Experience or exposure to industrial or manufacturing operations is preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is preferred but not required
  • Understanding of Docker and Kubernetes is preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of database systems and SQL queries is preferred but not required
  • Experience combining machine control with computer programming is preferred but not required
