Senior Staff Full-Stack Engineer, Global Payment Network (Remote)

Lead the modernization of Capital One’s high-scale payment network as a senior staff engineer. Shape distributed architecture, cloud platforms, AI-native development, and engineering mentorship.

  • Direct cross-divisional initiatives that advance technology best practices
  • Design, build, and run resilient, high-volume, low-latency systems supporting domestic and international money movement
  • Develop capabilities across core network products, streamline integration for global participants, and launch new features
  • Apply automation and AI-native engineering to generate real-time insights and strengthen fraud and risk mitigation

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science or a related quantitative discipline
  • Nine or more years working across software engineering and solution architecture, enterprise architecture and design patterns, cloud computing, and data architecture
  • A master’s degree in computer science or software engineering is preferred
  • Twelve or more years spanning software engineering and solution architecture, enterprise architecture and design patterns, web technologies, distributed HPC and ML systems, cloud computing, and data architecture is preferred
  • At least 12 years of professional programming experience with languages including Go, Java, JavaScript or TypeScript, Python, Rust, C#, or Scala
  • At least 10 years working with databases and database management systems
  • At least 12 years delivering software through the full system development lifecycle
  • At least 10 years using public cloud platforms, cloud productivity tools, or virtualization technologies
  • At least 12 years working with networking protocols and integrating third-party distributed systems
  • At least seven years mentoring senior engineers and supporting their professional growth
  • At least three years leading cross-domain architecture reviews or defining coding and design standards
  • Expert-level ability to apply agentic AI coding tools to systemic development problems
  • Experience with AI-powered tools, relevant frameworks, or contemporary software development practices
  • Fintech experience in payment processing, merchant services, or digital payment architecture
  • A record of iteratively delivering enterprise software, large-scale data migrations, and platform transformations
  • Experience architecting, testing, and operating real-time distributed data systems and high-volume pipelines
  • A strong sense of ownership and a destination-backwards approach
  • Ability to work strategically with Product, Design, Risk, and Enterprise Tech leaders and constructively challenge them
