Electrical Engineer – Pittsburgh, PA (On-Site)

Designs PCBs, embedded systems, and communications hardware for rugged industrial IoT and heavy-duty connected products. Develops prototypes and validates designs from initial concept through production.

Description

  • Create hardware for rugged, heavy-duty applications
  • Work with firmware, mechanical, thermal, and optical engineers on advanced product designs
  • Implement CANBus and SAE J1939 communications while meeting mechanical and thermal requirements
  • Develop technology specifications and proposals for scalable, cost-conscious solutions
  • Build proof-of-concept prototypes and document them with DFMEA
  • Plan and conduct alpha, beta, and stress testing through DVP&R validation activities
  • Improve designs for efficient manufacturing and reliable system integration
  • Prepare technical documentation and white papers for internal knowledge sharing
  • Manage revision control throughout the product development lifecycle

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience in hardware and circuit design
  • Proficiency with Altium or comparable CADD tools for schematic and PCB development
  • Practical experience with embedded systems using RTOS or Linux
  • Programming ability in C, C++, or Python
  • Strong understanding of CANBus and SAE J1939 protocols
  • Familiarity with GHz-class microprocessors and wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and cellular
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
  • Knowledge of PCB manufacturing and production-oriented design
  • Understanding of embedded device-to-cloud architectures
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Current qualification as a US Person under ITAR/EAR, including a US citizen, permanent legal resident, or protected individual with refugee or asylum status
