Description

  • Lead and develop underwriting professionals to meet business, operational, and financial goals.
  • Set workload distribution and production priorities, and monitor performance to ensure timely, accurate results.
  • Identify staffing, training, and professional development needs.
  • Improve processes to increase productivity, rating accuracy, efficiency, and customer experience.
  • Promote excellent customer service and coach teams in consultative partnerships.
  • Apply and explain underwriting policies, product knowledge, business strategies, and organizational initiatives.
  • Approve underwriting exceptions and financial variances within delegated authority.
  • Join Sales and Account Management colleagues in customer and broker meetings as needed.
  • Work across CVS Health and Aetna business segments to meet enterprise and market goals.
  • Use market and competitor insights to assess risk, set prices, and support profitability.
  • Explain and negotiate rate development methods and underwriting decisions.
  • Shape case strategy and business outcomes while meeting service expectations and deliverables.
  • Build cross-functional relationships that support growth, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
  • Guide and mentor direct and indirect team members.

Requirements

  • At least five years of medical underwriting experience, including Medicare or group health insurance products.
  • Experience leading, coaching, mentoring, or developing underwriting professionals.
  • Strong command of underwriting principles, risk assessment, pricing methods, and funding arrangements.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other analytical tools.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • Preferred: Experience supporting Public and Labor, National Accounts, or Middle Market business segments.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Aetna underwriting systems, products, rating methods, and processes.
  • Preferred: Experience leading operational improvements and delivering measurable business results.
  • Preferred: Ability to influence cross-functional partners and contribute to strategic initiatives.
