Senior DevOps Engineer — NOAA CAC Badge Required, Remote

Lead secure, scalable AWS and Azure infrastructure, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD automation for Element 84’s cloud-based geospatial and generative AI projects. This remote senior role requires an active NOAA CAC badge and U.S. work authorization.

Description

  • Design and deliver secure, scalable, cloud-native solutions on AWS.
  • Partner with security specialists to turn organizational requirements into compliant cloud implementations.
  • Build, maintain, and troubleshoot infrastructure as code across multiple AWS and Azure accounts.
  • Operate and improve continuous integration and deployment pipelines.
  • Write automation scripts using Python, Bash, JavaScript, and other suitable languages.
  • Help support infrastructure for generative AI applications built on domain-specific datasets.
  • Automate the delivery and administration of application environments, pipelines, and security tools.
  • Establish and promote DevOps practices and standards across Element 84 and its customers.
  • Work closely with technical teams and customers to solve complex operational challenges.

Requirements

  • At least six years of software development experience.
  • At least three years focused specifically on cloud technologies.
  • Hands-on expertise writing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex infrastructure-as-code configurations.
  • Strong programming experience in one or more languages, including Python, Bash, or JavaScript.
  • Proven ability to design, deploy, and manage infrastructure and services on a major cloud platform.
  • Ability to explain architectural concepts through presentations, visual diagrams, and white papers.
  • Experience balancing security, performance, maintainability, and cost tradeoffs.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple customers and demands.
  • Extensive experience working on an Agile software development team.
  • Solid experience with Linux environments.
  • Deep knowledge of cloud architecture patterns and their tradeoffs.
  • Expertise with build and deployment automation tools.
  • Proficiency with monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, AWS Config, Kibana, Splunk, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or Honeycomb.
  • Experience with data storage and engineering technologies such as Elasticsearch, SQL, NoSQL, DynamoDB, Redshift, Athena, or Glue.
  • Experience with networking technologies including CloudFront, Route 53, load balancers, API Gateway, VPCs, and NACLs.
  • Technical cloud certification or willingness to obtain one.
  • Active NOAA CAC badge.
  • Must be a U.S. Person, defined as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
