Semiconductor Testsite Engineer

Design and characterize semiconductor test chips and structures at GlobalFoundries. Convert silicon measurement data into improvements for technology, models, design rules, and customer designs.

Description

  • Create and develop internal test chips, testsites, and semiconductor test structures
  • Define chip-level and device-level structures for electrical measurement and technology characterization
  • Partner with technology development, design enablement, product, test, and manufacturing teams
  • Advance internal and customer designs through design-to-mask readiness, including layout review, design-rule checks, verification, and release
  • Plan and conduct electrical characterization and testing of fabricated test chips
  • Interpret silicon data, detect trends and performance gaps, and propose technology, model, design-rule, or testsite improvements
  • Refine testsite and chip designs using measured silicon results
  • Record testsite architecture, design intent, measurement findings, and technical conclusions
  • Present findings to cross-functional stakeholders
  • Work safely and uphold Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements
  • Contribute collaboratively to additional projects and assignments as required

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, Microelectronics, or a related technical discipline
  • Relevant experience in semiconductor IC or test-chip design, technology development, device characterization, product engineering, or a related area, with years determined by the applicable GF career level and scope guidelines
  • Practical understanding of semiconductor devices, integrated-circuit design or layout, electrical characterization, and silicon measurement analysis
  • Experience with semiconductor design and verification processes, including schematic capture, layout, DRC/LVS, extraction, simulation, or design-to-mask release
  • Ability to examine technical data, determine root causes and trends, and turn findings into design or technology improvements
  • Professional fluency in written and spoken English
  • Preferred: Master’s degree or PhD in a related discipline
  • Preferred: Background designing semiconductor test chips, process-control or characterization structures, or dedicated technology-development testsites
  • Preferred: Experience using standard EDA environments and data-analysis tools
  • Knowledge of CMOS process technology, device physics, parasitic effects, process variation, reliability, and design-technology interaction
  • Experience collaborating across design, process integration, characterization, modeling, PDK, test, or manufacturing teams
  • Project coordination and management capability
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication
  • Strong organization and forward planning skills
