Product Engineer - Ruby on Rails and GraphQL - Canada Remote

Own customer-focused features for OpsLevel’s agentic software delivery platform. Build Rails, GraphQL, and MySQL systems while advancing AI-assisted engineering workflows.

Description

  • Own product challenges from understanding customer needs through solution design, implementation, launch, and iteration.
  • Partner with product, UX, and engineering teams to deliver customer-focused solutions.
  • Engage with customers through calls, support discussions, and direct observation of product usage.
  • Write thoroughly tested code and provide constructive code reviews.
  • Use coding agents while improving their context, tooling, and safeguards.
  • Help develop the internal software factory that routes work from Linear to agents and human review.
  • Track technical debt and drive architectural improvements.
  • Establish and champion best practices for Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, and database design.
  • Develop private and public GraphQL APIs for the frontend, CLI, and customer automation.
  • Lead technical investigations and create working prototypes.
  • Deliver work reliably and communicate promptly when plans or timelines are at risk.
  • Mentor teammates and contribute to their professional development.
  • Participate in on-call troubleshooting across Ruby on Rails, Vue.js, GraphQL, and MySQL.

Requirements

  • At least five years of Ruby on Rails experience, or seven years using a comparable web framework such as Spring, Django, or Node.js.
  • Experience designing architectures with clear interface boundaries and separation of concerns.
  • Practical experience applying SOLID principles.
  • Strong proficiency with Rails.
  • Experience designing performant MySQL data models.
  • Knowledge of RDBMS structuring, indexing, denormalization, and diagnosing and resolving slow queries.
  • Experience building with AI tools and sound judgment about where they are effective.
  • Strong product instincts and the ability to understand user needs before designing solutions.
  • Nice to have: experience developing agent systems beyond autocomplete, including evaluation harnesses, custom tools, MCP servers, or internal workflows.
  • Nice to have: experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Rails job systems such as Sidekiq, Redis, and large-scale web applications.
  • Ability to join an on-call rotation.
  • Based in North America and authorized to work in the selected country.
