Manager, Data Engineering

Lead data engineering and portfolio analytics for American Express technology investments. Build dashboards, automation, and insights to inform strategic portfolio decisions.

Description

  • Track technology portfolio performance across investments, budgets, staffing, forecasts, delivery timelines, and operational health.
  • Combine and analyze large, varied technology and financial datasets with Python, SQL, APIs, and data pipelines.
  • Create dashboards, Power BI reports, presentations, and tailored analytics for leaders and stakeholders.
  • Work with Portfolio Management, Finance, and Technology teams to assess investment priorities, capacity, budget use, and delivery risks.
  • Recommend data-backed actions to guide portfolio planning and decisions.
  • Apply AI-assisted analytics, machine learning, and automation to improve data classification, forecasting, reporting accuracy, and portfolio processes.
  • Help maintain data validation, reconciliation, lineage, and reporting standards.
  • Turn stakeholder needs across Technology, Product, Finance, and business teams into practical insights and technical solutions.
  • Find ways to simplify reporting, clarify Platform Health, strengthen portfolio governance, and build scalable data solutions.

Requirements

  • Bring substantial experience in data analytics, data engineering, or technology portfolio analytics.
  • Use Python, SQL, JSON, data modeling, ETL/ELT, REST APIs, and large-scale data analysis in practice.
  • Work proficiently with Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, DAX, Power Query, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Have developed executive dashboards, automated reports, and portfolio performance visualizations.
  • Have worked with technology investment, financial, or portfolio management data, including IBM Apptio or comparable tools.
  • Understand technology portfolio management, investment planning, budget tracking, financial forecasting, resource capacity, and project delivery performance.
  • Have applied AI/ML, LLM-enabled analytics, predictive modeling, and workflow automation.
  • Know data integration, database management, data quality validation, reporting automation, and data governance practices.
  • Be familiar with Microsoft Power Platform tools such as Power Apps and Power Automate, and with cloud data and analytics environments.
  • Bring strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable guidance for leadership.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, or equivalent professional experience; an advanced degree is preferred.
