Lead Data Engineer (India Remote)

Lead the development of scalable Snowflake, dbt, and AWS data platforms for financial services in India. Oversee Data Operations and deliver dependable, production-ready data products.

Description

  • Build scalable data pipelines and solutions with Snowflake, Snowflake Openflow (Apache NiFi), and dbt
  • Convert business and data needs into technical designs, data flows, integration approaches, data models, and delivery plans
  • Develop and support Openflow ingestion, dbt transformation models, and high-performance Snowflake workloads
  • Create reusable batch, change-data-capture, API, and file-ingestion patterns with validation, reconciliation, restartability, and recovery controls
  • Develop advanced SQL and Python solutions through code reviews, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and complex problem resolution
  • Ensure data platforms satisfy expectations for quality, security, scalability, maintainability, observability, and cost efficiency
  • Partner with architecture, analytics, platform, security, application, and business stakeholders
  • Maintain technical documentation, reusable engineering patterns, and development standards
  • Lead Data Operations support while coordinating priorities, handoffs, and issue resolution among India-based data teams
  • Define engineering practices covering source control, peer review, testing, CI/CD, deployment, documentation, and production readiness
  • Mentor colleagues through design and code reviews while encouraging cross-training
  • Own and advance Data Operations through support coverage, incident response, escalation processes, runbooks, recovery procedures, and service expectations
  • Implement automated monitoring, alerting, and recovery for data platforms and pipeline workloads
  • Monitor service health and incident patterns, lead root-cause investigations, and improve reliability and operational efficiency

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • At least 10 years of hands-on data engineering experience, including 2 or more years leading technical delivery or production operations
  • Strong production experience with cloud data technologies including Snowflake, AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Experience with solution design, data structures, performance tuning, workload management, security, and cost optimization
  • Extensive hands-on dbt experience covering model design, testing, documentation, dependencies, reusable macros, and multi-environment deployment
  • Experience with Git-based development, automated testing, CI/CD, Terraform, and repeatable environment-promotion processes
  • Advanced SQL expertise and experience creating maintainable, testable production data pipelines and products
  • Experience designing ETL/ELT solutions for batch, CDC, API, and file-based ingestion
  • Experience applying data modeling, data quality, validation, and recovery practices
  • Strong solution-design, communication, and technical-leadership capabilities
  • Ability to guide technical decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate across business and technology teams
  • Preferred: production experience with Snowflake and AWS
  • Preferred: experience with Apache NiFi or Snowflake Openflow
  • Preferred: relational database experience with RDS and PostgreSQL
  • Preferred: experience in financial services or regulated environments
  • Preferred: experience with automated observability, data-quality, metadata, lineage, or data-catalog tools, plus certification in Snowflake, dbt, Apache NiFi, AWS, or data management is advantageous.
