Senior Software Engineer, Lending Systems
Lead backend and full-stack engineering for Upstart’s unsecured installment lending systems. Design scalable services and borrower experiences while guiding other engineers.
Descriere
- Lead complex backend and full-stack projects from planning through launch and ongoing support.
- Guide technical decisions for service architecture, APIs, data models, and integrations.
- Manage a three-to-six-month roadmap and tackle systemic reliability and team effectiveness issues.
- Work with product, frontend, design, platform, and backend teams to build scalable systems.
- Strengthen service and API design, data integrity, testing, observability, security, and operations.
- Turn ambiguous problems into clear, testable plans and use data to inform tradeoffs.
- Support engineers with code and design reviews and technical guidance.
- Help apply AI in development workflows and product features.
Cerințe
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least six years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong expertise building backend services and APIs with Python, Java, Kotlin, Go, Ruby, or Node.js.
- Experience with service architecture, API design, data modeling, relational or non-relational databases, and distributed systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead major, business-critical backend or full-stack projects independently in production.
- Experience with testing, monitoring, incident response, performance tuning, and sustained operational ownership.
- Ability to work through ambiguity as requirements and system boundaries evolve.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Preferred: Experience in backend or full-stack technical leadership.
- Preferred: Experience with consumer products or high-volume transaction systems.
- Preferred: Background in fintech, lending, payments, or regulated financial products.
- Preferred: Experience with distributed systems, asynchronous processing, event-driven systems, or service-oriented architecture.
- Preferred: Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, data stores, messaging systems, and CI/CD workflows.
- Preferred: Experience with experimentation, feature flags, or iterative improvements in production.
