Senior Research Analyst, Frontier AI Policy

Join RAND Europe to study the policy implications of frontier AI and help shape evidence-based approaches to governance, assurance and preparedness.

  • Contribute to or manage interdisciplinary research on the national and international policy implications of AI advances.
  • Lead or co-lead research on frontier AI governance, assurance, institutional readiness, international coordination and related topics.
  • Design research and grant proposals using methods such as literature reviews, interviews, document analysis, comparative policy analysis, expert elicitation, scenario analysis and workshops or tabletop exercises.
  • Assess how findings from AI testing, evaluation, red teaming and monitoring can inform institutional decisions.
  • Help manage relationships with external partners, collaborators and clients.
  • Contribute to RAND Europe frameworks for decision-ready evidence, AI assurance, regulatory capacity and frontier AI preparedness.
  • Represent RAND Europe at workshops, consultations, meetings and external events.
  • Work with colleagues and the Research Group Director to develop SET’s research and strategy.
  • Collaborate constructively and contribute to the organisation’s development and profile.
  • Help raise RAND Europe’s profile and communicate research findings to increase their impact.

  • Show a strong interest in assessing AI capabilities, understanding AI safety and security risks, and advancing responsible governance policies and frameworks for AI and other high-consequence technologies.
  • Critically engage with evidence from AI testing, evaluation, red teaming, monitoring or related technical work, including its scope, limitations and policy relevance.
  • Demonstrate experience developing original research proposals and frameworks and carrying them through to publications or other outputs.
  • Bring a background or strong familiarity in AI safety, AI security, AI for good, AI regulation, AI assurance, legislative approaches to AI, computer engineering, or science and technology policy.
  • Have excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Have experience collaborating in multidisciplinary teams across technical and policy domains.
  • Understand the AI governance organisational landscape, including key grantmakers and potential collaborators.
  • Familiarity with AI models, machine learning concepts or computational tools is desirable; deep technical machine learning expertise is not required.
  • Experience with Python, R, data analysis or other computational methods is desirable where relevant, but not essential.
  • Demonstrate commitment to RAND Europe’s values of quality, objectivity, collaboration, service and learning.
