Overnight Residential Counselor – Vinfen, New Britain, CT
Provide awake overnight residential support in New Britain, Connecticut, helping residents with daily living, treatment programs, medication, and safety. Vinfen delivers community-based health and human services across Massachusetts and Connecticut.

- Oversee overnight activities in a community living setting
- Provide individualized and group support to people receiving services
- Teach practical skills that promote independence and quality of life
- Keep the residence safe, secure, and clean
- Support treatment plans, including ISP/PSTPs and clinical programs
- Contribute to treatment planning when needed
- Maintain records, gather behavioral and academic data, write progress notes, and document incidents and routine activities
- Support daily living activities such as showering, personal hygiene, dressing, and household chores
- Deliver and document fire and safety training
- Monitor physical and emotional well-being and report changes to the supervisor
- Store, administer, document, and dispose of medication in accordance with MAC requirements, regulations, and company policy
- Complete required training and attend staff meetings
- Help orient new employees and support regulatory compliance
- Follow corporate and divisional policies, safe work practices, workers’ compensation procedures, universal precautions, and exposure control protocols
- Complete hands-on program duties, site safety and maintenance, housekeeping, snow removal, garbage disposal, and transportation as needed
- Maintain required staff-to-person-served ratios and provide short-notice coverage
- Provide physical intervention or first aid during behavioral or medical emergencies
- Report to the Disabled Persons Protection Commission as required
- Stay awake, alert, and appropriately dressed for the full shift
- Perform additional related duties as assigned

- Three months to one year of experience in a related role
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid US driver’s license presented at the time of employment
- At least 21 years old
- Valid US driver’s license held for at least six months
- Adequate insurance coverage when using a personal vehicle
- Safe driving history and ability to pass a driver screening background check
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, sit, reach, use stairs, and move through narrow spaces or hallways
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds using proper techniques or a two-person lift
- Ability to help clients with activities of daily living
- Ability to speak, hear, and communicate with clients, staff, and external representatives
- Ability to use computers and office equipment, including calculators, copiers, and printers
- Vision sufficient for near, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, along with focus adjustment
- Obtain CPR certification within two weeks of hire
- Obtain First Aid certification within two weeks of hire
- MAC certification is required and must follow Connecticut guidelines
- Complete Safety Care training within 60 days of hire
- Knowledge and application of varied communication styles
- Knowledge of empowerment, self-advocacy, participatory planning, crisis intervention, advocacy, physical personal management, and household management techniques
- Ability to teach skills
- Ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team
- Sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender-related concerns
