Software Engineering Manager, Investments (Remote - Missouri)

Lead software engineering teams responsible for modernizing investment platforms, data, and integrations. Support RGA’s global investments and investment accounting operations.

Description

  • Lead, mentor, and develop software engineers throughout the employee lifecycle.
  • Own reliable delivery and operational performance for products and services.
  • Build effective partnerships with leaders in Investments, Investment Operations, and Investment Accounting.
  • Understand processes and controls spanning portfolio management, trading, settlement, positions, valuations, performance, risk, cash, securities accounting, reconciliation, and financial reporting.
  • Work with Product Management and Product Owners to shape roadmaps, outcomes, dependencies, capacity, and engineering priorities.
  • Collaborate with architecture teams to deliver target-state architecture using approved patterns.
  • Set engineering standards for secure coding, peer review, automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, documentation, release management, and maintainability.
  • Direct delivery of modern web applications, services, data pipelines, and integrations across cloud-native, serverless, containerized, API-first, event-driven, streaming, batch, and file-based architectures.
  • Oversee engineering work involving investment platforms and external providers.
  • Manage vendor performance, upgrades, integration approaches, and build-versus-buy-versus-configure decisions.
  • Ensure production services satisfy expectations for availability, recoverability, performance, monitoring, incident response, problem management, and disaster recovery.
  • Incorporate security, privacy, segregation of duties, data lineage, traceability, logging, evidence retention, and control requirements into delivery.
  • Oversee team budgets, vendor expenditure, staffing mix, hiring, capacity, and forecasts.
  • Assess and introduce emerging technologies responsibly, including generative AI and agentic engineering tools.
  • Report delivery progress, operational health, risks, dependencies, investment requirements, and decisions to technical, business, and executive stakeholders.
  • Complete other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience is required.
  • At least nine years of progressive experience in software engineering, application development, platform engineering, data engineering, or related technology disciplines is required.
  • At least three years of formal people-management experience leading software engineering teams is required.
  • Demonstrated accountability for delivering and operating business-critical technology products or platforms in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Experience supporting investments, asset management, investment accounting, capital markets, treasury, finance, or related business capabilities.
  • Experience working in an agile, product-oriented technology organization.
  • Strong command of modern software engineering practices, APIs, event-driven architecture, automated testing, secure development, source control, CI/CD, observability, and infrastructure as code.
  • Working fluency with modern application, data, and cloud technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS or a comparable public-cloud ecosystem.
  • Practical knowledge of investment data and processes.
  • Understanding of front-, middle-, and back-office operating models and IBOR/ABOR concepts.
  • Knowledge of at least one asset class.
  • Ability to lead integrations with investment platforms, accounting systems, market-data providers, custodians, and internal data platforms.
  • Understanding of financial and insurance control environments, auditability, data lineage, access controls, change management, segregation of duties, model governance, SOX ITGC, and SOC reporting.
  • Advanced leadership, communication, facilitation, negotiation, and stakeholder-management capabilities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and dependencies while making timely decisions with incomplete information.
