Software Engineer, Trust & Safety — North America Remote

Build real-time anti-abuse and detection systems for Resend’s developer email platform. Design enforcement workflows, machine-learning classifiers, and safeguards against spam, phishing, and account takeover.

Description

  • Build and operate a real-time enforcement layer within a millisecond-level latency budget.
  • Design signal-to-decision-to-action pipelines across sending, receiving, and account activity.
  • Create detection rules and policies that can be changed safely.
  • Detect and contain account takeovers and leaked API keys without blocking legitimate account owners.
  • Measure detection precision and retire rules that negatively affect legitimate senders.
  • Automate investigations, appeals, and bulk actions.
  • Build and assess machine-learning classifiers for spam and phishing, validating precision before enforcement.
  • Implement safeguards and maintain traceability through logs, metrics, and audit trails.
  • Guide technical decisions and deliver projects from discovery through production.
  • Work closely with developers who use Resend’s email platform.

Requirements

  • At least five years of software engineering experience.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Extensive experience with Node.js, TypeScript, React, Hono, and Next.js.
  • Experience with Go, or willingness to learn it for latency-sensitive services.
  • Infrastructure and reliability experience with AWS, CDK, and Datadog.
  • Experience building APIs, event-driven architectures, queues, and stateful services.
  • Ability to design fail-safe systems and treat false positives as defects.
  • Strong observability skills across metrics, logs, tracing, and error handling.
  • Ability to own work across the stack, including frontend surfaces, databases, and queues.
  • Demonstrated experience with Postgres and Redis.
  • Trust and safety, fraud, or security experience is considered an exceptional-fit qualification.
  • Experience building real-time enforcement systems, such as rate limiters or rules engines using policy languages like CEL, is considered an exceptional-fit qualification.
  • Production experience delivering ML- or LLM-based detection systems and measuring precision and recall is considered an exceptional-fit qualification.
  • Knowledge of email systems, including SPF, DKIM, DMARC, bounces, complaints, and phishing campaigns, is considered an exceptional-fit qualification.
  • Knowledge of Postgres and Redis performance tuning is considered an exceptional-fit qualification.
