Software Deployment Engineer – Hybrid

Deploy and support Valinor’s defense and government drone systems alongside customers and integration partners. Troubleshoot hardware, firmware, and software issues while converting field experience into product improvements.

Description

  • Deploy Condor systems on-site with customers and integration partners during multi-week engagements, taking them from installation and configuration to live operation
  • Support operational and test flights from pre-flight checks through contingency briefings and post-flight debriefs
  • Lead customer training and build operator confidence with the system
  • Diagnose live problems spanning hardware, firmware, and software
  • Develop, test, and deploy software and configuration fixes in the field
  • Integrate field-developed fixes into the core product
  • Act as the primary technical connection between customers and the R&D team
  • Convert field observations into reproducible bugs, requirements, and feature specifications
  • Collaborate with R&D at the New York or North Carolina base to deliver fixes and features
  • Verify fixes and features in the field before broader release
  • Create runbooks, knowledge-base content, and training materials

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Two to six years of experience in software engineering, robotics, field engineering, or technical support for complex hardware systems
  • Proficiency with C++ and Python
  • Hands-on experience with Linux, serial protocols such as UART and I2C, and networking
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot systems across hardware, firmware, and software
  • Experience developing frontend software and flight-control logic
  • Ability to fly and troubleshoot drones, or learn quickly while obtaining an FAA Part 107 license
  • Strong communication skills with both engineers and non-technical users
  • Calm, decisive judgment when customer operations are at risk
  • Willingness to travel more than 50%, including multi-week customer deployments
  • Located near or willing to relocate to the New York or North Carolina site
  • Work from the office in a hybrid arrangement when not traveling
  • U.S. Person based in the United States because the role requires U.S. export-controlled access
  • Experience in forward-deployed or field applications engineering, flight control, navigation, autonomy, startups, or hardware product companies is a plus
