Senior Principal Electronics Engineer, Avionics

Develop and integrate avionics systems for Northrop Grumman’s Air Dominance Division in an onsite role. Lead sustainment, qualification, supplier coordination, and technical program execution.

Description

  • Design, develop, integrate, and test electronic systems such as communications, flight controls, radar, navigation, and weapons equipment.
  • Maintain complex circuit assemblies, analog and digital computers, and line-replaceable and shop-replaceable units.
  • Develop sustainment approaches and new technologies for avionics equipment and components.
  • Put selected technical solutions into practice.
  • Coordinate across internal teams and oversee suppliers and supporting engineers.
  • Communicate technical status, issues, impacts, and mitigations to engineering and program leaders.
  • Act as Responsible Engineer, supplier technical liaison, and avionics integration representative.
  • Guide and mentor responsible engineers and less experienced colleagues.
  • Track development, sustainment, hardware design, qualification, integration, and verification and validation work.
  • Provide technical updates and assessments to program leaders and customers.
  • Evaluate the cost and schedule effects of technical decisions.
  • Ensure work follows applicable processes, policies, procedures, best practices, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate delivery of program work statements and technical requirements.
  • Work with the Technical Review Board on change packages.
  • Take part in technical interchange meetings and program reviews.
  • Help address engineering challenges across technical programs.
  • Coordinate across programs and functions to improve operational efficiency.
  • Analyze complex issues and develop solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and 8 years of related experience, or a master’s degree and 6 years, or a PhD and 4 years.
  • Strong understanding of electronics systems.
  • Experience with qualification and environmental testing for flight equipment.
  • Familiarity with nuclear, EMI, reliability, and logistics technical disciplines.
  • Experience with airborne platform integration requirements.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain SAP clearance within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Strong understanding of nuclear and radiation-hardening requirements and testing.
  • Experience with LabVIEW or similar data collection and electronic modeling tools.
  • Working knowledge of Earned Value and familiarity with Cost Account Management principles.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for roles requiring government clearance and certain other restricted positions.
