Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Robinson Nuclear Plant (Hybrid)

Lead electrical design work for Duke Energy’s Robinson Nuclear Station, covering power and protection systems. Develop design changes, technical analyses, and implementation requirements for nuclear plant projects.

Description

  • Define the scope, technical basis, installation requirements, and testing criteria for design changes affecting AC/DC power systems, large motors, transformers, switchgear, motor control centers, protective relays, voltage regulators, breakers, and associated equipment.
  • Apply engineering judgment and technical knowledge to investigate and resolve progressively more complex issues.
  • Help the team plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and track engineering work.
  • Produce technical reports, correspondence, design documentation, calculations, and sketches.
  • Perform engineering analyses and related technical studies.
  • Deliver projects with limited supervision while taking on greater responsibility for schedules and project interfaces.
  • Design, operate, and maintain systems whose changes have a moderate effect on existing plant systems.
  • Coordinate assigned activities and keep project records and files accurate and current.
  • Advance company objectives while representing Duke Energy in a professional and constructive manner.

Requirements

  • Meet the minimum ANSI qualifications specified in Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011 and Regulatory Guide 1.8 Personnel Qualifications.
  • For Electrical Design Engineer III: at least one year of nuclear power plant experience.
  • For Electrical Design Engineer III: a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • For Electrical Design Engineer III: at least four years of engineering experience.
  • For Senior Electrical Design Engineer: at least one year of nuclear power plant experience.
  • For Senior Electrical Design Engineer: a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • For Senior Electrical Design Engineer: at least six years of engineering experience, or five years with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • A master's degree in engineering may substitute for the bachelor's degree.
  • Qualify for unescorted nuclear site access and security clearance.
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employment-based immigration sponsorship.
  • Working knowledge of ETAP is preferred.
  • Utility or nuclear industry experience and familiarity with standard nuclear design processes are preferred.
  • Preferred capabilities include engineering research, design-issue assessment, alternatives analysis, recommendations, project management, and technical or analytical work.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment when conditions call for it.
  • Work additional hours during scheduled refueling outages when needed.
  • Travel overnight occasionally.
  • Be prepared to support Emergency Response Organization duties, callouts, on-call rotations, and Fit for Duty requirements.
