Senior Dynamic Analyst, New Glenn Interstage at Blue Origin

Description

  • Analyze the New Glenn interstage jettison event with LS-DYNA
  • Calculate minimum clearances and evaluate worst-case conditions
  • Build high-fidelity transient models for high-energy separation mechanisms
  • Partner with mechanical engineers on separation-system architecture trade studies
  • Derive component-level separation-mechanism requirements from analysis results
  • Analyze metallic and composite flight hardware under dynamic loading
  • Support test planning, screening, qualification, data reduction, and analysis
  • Prepare margin-of-safety summaries, qualification reports, and related documentation
  • Develop databooks covering system requirements and component performance
  • Present analytical results in design reviews and technical reports
  • Track schedules and communicate technical progress
  • Identify process improvements and opportunities to reduce operating costs

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics is required
  • At least 8 years of dynamic or structural analysis experience in the aircraft, spacecraft, automotive, launch-vehicle, or defense industries
  • U.S. citizenship or nationality, permanent residency, or lawful admission as a refugee or asylee is required
  • Experience with spacecraft or launch-vehicle separation, vehicle or flight dynamics, structural or thermal transients, impact or crash analysis, pyrotechnic or ordnance modeling, or bird-strike and blade-containment analysis
  • Advanced proficiency with LS-DYNA
  • Familiarity with Abaqus Explicit, Ansys, Nastran, Optistruct, Hypermesh, or Hypersizer
  • Ability to evaluate material tradeoffs and strong knowledge of metallic structural analysis
  • Ability to read 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build trust, sustain professional relationships, and support an inclusive culture
  • Collaborative approach with strong interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to continuous learning, improvement, and solution development
  • Successful completion of Blue Origin’s standard background check
  • Master’s degree or higher in engineering or physics is preferred
  • Direct experience with jettisoned launch-vehicle systems is preferred
  • Experience using LS-DYNA to model high-energy transient separation events is preferred
  • Strong Python, Matlab, or Fortran skills, including scripts for post-processing and model setup, are preferred
  • Experience with Linux-based high-performance computing resources is preferred
