Senior DevOps Engineer — Washington, DC On-site

Build and support secure DevSecOps platforms across AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Elastic, and CI/CD environments. This on-site role supports DoD cybersecurity, observability, automation, cloud optimization, and reliable software delivery.

Description

  • Design and support secure CI/CD pipelines, cloud-native infrastructure, observability platforms, and automated delivery capabilities in a DoD environment
  • Build automated CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins or CloudBees, Artifactory, Kubernetes or OpenShift, Docker, Ansible, and Bitbucket
  • Automate application deployments, configuration, testing, and infrastructure operations
  • Create automated tests with Ansible, Selenium, JMeter, JUnit, and related tools
  • Support software releases across development, testing, and production environments
  • Deploy, configure, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade Kafka and Elastic clusters
  • Configure applications to send network data to the Elastic Stack hosted in AWS
  • Support containerized application environments using Kubernetes or OpenShift and Docker
  • Create and maintain dashboards and observability solutions for application, infrastructure, security, availability, and cloud-cost monitoring
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and automation based on metrics, logs, and traces
  • Strengthen incident detection, root-cause analysis, operational visibility, and system reliability
  • Identify, document, track, and reduce technical risks
  • Configure applications and infrastructure to satisfy DoD cybersecurity requirements and applicable STIGs
  • Embed security controls and compliance monitoring into CI/CD pipelines and production environments
  • Help remediate security findings and required configuration changes
  • Analyze cloud utilization and apply rightsizing, idle-resource detection, storage and compute optimization, and FinOps practices
  • Oversee certificate provisioning, renewal, rotation, and expiration monitoring
  • Participate in Agile development processes and daily Scrum ceremonies
  • Demonstrate completed capabilities and collaborate with distributed teams, customers, and stakeholders
  • Present technical status, risks, and recommendations to customers and program leadership
  • Provide technical leadership and maintain engineering and operational documentation

Requirements

  • Work fully on-site in Washington, DC
  • Hold an active Top Secret/SCI security clearance
  • Maintain a current Security+ certification or a higher or equivalent certification that satisfies applicable DoD IAT Level II requirements
  • Have a relevant technical bachelor's degree with 8–12 years of relevant experience, or a relevant technical master's degree with 6–10 years of relevant experience
  • Have developed software in Agile environments and demonstrated the ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Have experience with distributed version-control systems such as Git and Bitbucket
  • Have experience developing software on Linux platforms
  • Understand and apply software engineering principles, theories, and concepts
  • Manage multiple priorities, independently assign work, and perform effectively within a geographically distributed team
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with virtual teams
  • Communicate technical status and present information to customers and program leadership
  • Demonstrate leadership capabilities
  • Show strong attention to detail, organization, and technical documentation practices
  • Be willing and able to complete and maintain additional customer suitability screenings throughout employment
  • Preferred experience includes Python, Java, SQL, JSON/REST, JavaScript, AWS, Jenkins, Artifactory, Ansible, Kubernetes, Docker, Atlassian tools, Agile/Scrum, DoD environments, DISA, STIGs, software design, and technical documentation
