Principal AI Engineer – Verizon (Hybrid, Basking Ridge)

Lead the development and deployment of agentic AI, machine learning, and LLM systems for Verizon’s consumer telecommunications platforms. The role focuses on AI agents, production optimization, and improved customer experiences.

Description

  • Build, optimize, and deploy advanced agentic AI and machine learning models within Verizon’s Consumer Group AI team
  • Deliver customer success, sales, and digital agent solutions
  • Develop, test, and scale agentic AI/ML solutions, specialized workflows, and LLM-powered systems
  • Connect AI agent frameworks with customer success, digital, and retail channel technologies
  • Partner with product managers and engineering teams to define production-ready technical roadmaps
  • Contribute to code reviews, technical design sessions, and red-team exercises
  • Improve model inference pipelines, API endpoints, and data integration layers
  • Research emerging AI frameworks and rapidly prototype new approaches
  • Document technical specifications and prepare materials demonstrating pilot performance

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least four years of work experience
  • At least six years of relevant experience gained through professional work, military service, or specialized training
  • At least one year of hands-on experience building, tuning, or integrating AI/ML models and LLM applications
  • Experience with Agile software development practices
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred
  • Experience building end-to-end AI agents and RAG architectures with orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, or Google ADK
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies, API design, and Google Cloud Platform
  • Familiarity with enterprise AI integrations and performance management platforms such as Verint
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
