Human Spaceflight Systems Engineer — Houston, Onsite

Advance NASA Artemis, Moonbase, and human spaceflight programs through systems integration and mission planning. Define operational requirements and assess readiness for The Aerospace Corporation’s NASA customers.

Description

  • Integrate activities across NASA programs and serve in program office roles.
  • Lead agency work to develop, analyze, integrate, and implement human spaceflight architectures, mission plans, operational activities, and spacecraft and surface system definitions.
  • Coordinate Artemis transportation and Moonbase initiatives covering in-flight, orbital, and surface operations.
  • Connect Moonbase, nuclear, science, and Artemis transportation exploration topics through program office work.
  • Define operational technical requirements across programs.
  • Assess programs and evaluate readiness.
  • Work with NASA mission architects, designers, and program experts across government and industry.
  • Check contractor deliverables and NASA requirements for compliance and system effectiveness.
  • Help develop standards and documentation for exploration operations.
  • Manage key program plans and products.
  • Support facility and infrastructure planning.
  • Take part in technical, safety, and integration working groups.
  • Prepare technical and progress reports for internal teams and external partners.
  • Support technical interchange meetings, hardware reviews, and major design milestones.
  • Create clear, actionable reports and presentations for program offices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or another related STEM field.
  • For Senior Member of Technical Staff: 3 years of experience in systems engineering, mission operations, or human spaceflight programs.
  • Experience in human exploration architecture, integration, and mission operations, with the ability to lead technical tasks.
  • Strong knowledge and practical application of the engineering program lifecycle, including requirements development, design reviews, and verification and validation.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and influence technical decisions.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, including explaining complex technical concepts to technical and management audiences at all levels.
  • Ability to work across diverse teams and engineering disciplines, including human-in-the-loop disciplines.
  • Experience with systems engineering tools and methods, such as model-based systems engineering and requirements management tools.
  • Record of delivering technical products and meeting program milestones.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to the work location or customer sites, domestically and internationally, approximately 10–25%.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required to obtain one.
  • For Project Engineer, Systems Engineering: 6 years of experience in systems engineering, mission operations, or human spaceflight programs.
  • Technical leadership experience, including leading complex technical efforts, managing cross-functional teams, and setting technical strategy across multiple programs.
  • Expert knowledge of the engineering program lifecycle and experience leading work from concept through operations.
  • Ability to make final technical recommendations, manage technical baselines, and represent the organization in senior technical forums with NASA, industry partners, and international stakeholders.
  • Experience managing technical performance metrics, identifying program risks, and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Advanced proficiency with systems engineering tools and digital engineering methods.
