Head of Engineering – London Hybrid

Description
- Lead engineering delivery and define what the team builds and how it works
- Remain hands-on in the codebase for roughly half the role, owning features and complex technical decisions
- Set and maintain standards for code quality, testing, reviews, documentation, post-mortems, and on-call practices
- Provide candid technical performance feedback and make challenging performance calls
- Recruit, onboard, and develop engineers as the team expands from six to approximately 15–20 people
- Turn individual productivity improvements from AI into measurable customer impact across the team
- Build disciplined root-cause analysis, pre-mortems, on-call, and incident-response practices
- Ensure products are developed and released with consistent speed and reliability
- Act as the engineering partner for banking, KYC, custodians, and vendor diligence
- Evaluate build-versus-buy choices
- Join live interviews and technical discussions, with final hiring stages held in person
Requirements
- Bring high agency, initiative, curiosity, directness, and impatience with slow delivery
- Be a committed builder who continues to write code and takes on difficult technical problems
- Demonstrate deep technical expertise and the ability to lead as the strongest engineer in the room
- Have built engineering organizations as a founder, CTO, Head of Engineering, or engineering leader
- Give precise, direct technical feedback and make difficult performance decisions
- Know how to hire, onboard, and grow engineering talent
- Assess engineering choices through the lens of customer impact
- Apply pragmatic risk judgment, particularly when money or compliance is involved
- Adapt communication effectively for engineers, product teams, leadership, and founders
- Work effectively with banking, KYC, custodians, and vendor relationships
- Have the right to work in the UK without requiring visa sponsorship
