Equipment Engineer – Robotics and Manufacturing Test | Santa Clara Onsite

Maintain and qualify robotic manufacturing and test equipment for Johnson & Johnson’s OTTAVA team in Santa Clara. Improve reliability, OEE, troubleshooting, and compliance across the equipment lifecycle.

Description

  • Manage assigned manufacturing and test equipment from specification and design review through installation, qualification, maintenance, modification, and retirement
  • Prepare or support URS/FRS documents, risk assessments, drawings, maintenance plans, spare-parts strategies, calibration requirements, work instructions, change records, and validation documentation
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, robotic, controls, software-interface, and computer-related failures while safeguarding people, products, data integrity, and the validated state
  • Track availability and uptime, assess downtime, MTBF, MTTR, work-order history, recurring failures, and response performance, and implement corrective and preventive actions
  • Investigate performance losses such as extended cycle times, micro-stops, jams, intermittent faults, and reduced operating rates
  • Evaluate equipment-driven quality losses, including defects, rework, false failures, measurement-system problems, and calibration drift, collaborating with Quality and Process Engineering on containment and root cause
  • Apply 5 Whys, fault-tree analysis, fishbone diagrams, FMEA, and data trending to prevent recurrence and confirm corrective-action effectiveness
  • Maintain reliable CMMS work orders and asset records, using maintenance history to refine preventive-maintenance tasks, intervals, spare parts, and equipment readiness
  • Coordinate suppliers and technicians, assist with audits and inspections, and train users in safe, compliant equipment operation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, Controls, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered under company requirements
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in equipment, automation, maintenance, manufacturing, or test engineering within medical devices, robotics, life sciences, semiconductors, aerospace, or another regulated industry
  • Practical experience with electromechanical equipment, automated test systems, robotics, controls, instrumentation, pneumatics, sensors, calibration, or custom fixtures
  • Familiarity with GMP, design controls, controlled documentation, change control, deviation and nonconformance processes, and equipment qualification principles
  • Experience using equipment data, downtime records, yield or first-pass results, and maintenance history to identify OEE losses and improvement opportunities
  • Understanding of OEE’s Availability, Performance, and Quality measures and the operating data required to calculate and interpret them
  • Structured troubleshooting skills and sound safety decisions in production environments
  • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, CAD drawings, technical specifications, PLC and controls information, and validation protocols
  • Experience analyzing OEE and reliability data, including uptime, downtime, MTBF, MTTR, cycle time, first-pass yield, and maintenance metrics
  • Proficiency with CMMS systems, technical documentation, disciplined recordkeeping, and change-control execution
  • Ability to collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, R&D, Validation, EHS, Facilities, IT/OT, technicians, and suppliers

Benefits

  • Inclusive workplace culture
