Distributed Systems Engineer, Data Platform — Censys (Remote, US)

Build scalable data services at Censys, mapping the Internet to deliver threat intelligence. Work across pipelines, databases, and cloud-native systems that support security products.

Description

  • Create large-scale, real-time services and applications that use extensive datasets for internal APIs and external products.
  • Develop tools, libraries, frameworks, and services for security, research, and data platform programs.
  • Turn prototypes into dependable internal tools, services, and platform capabilities.
  • Contribute to planning and technical discussions with engineering and product stakeholders.
  • Build and operate data pipelines, messaging infrastructure, databases, caching systems, and cloud or on-premises services.
  • Partner with Machine Learning Engineers and Security Researchers on solutions that influence security outcomes.
  • Account for long-term maintenance, observability, delivery processes, and developer experience.
  • Participate in video interviews with cameras enabled.
  • Complete in-person onboarding at Censys headquarters in Ann Arbor if hired.

Requirements

  • At least five years of software engineering experience building distributed systems.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming; the team uses Go.
  • Experience with a cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with or familiarity with messaging technologies such as AWS Kinesis, Google Pub/Sub, or Kafka.
  • Experience working with databases such as Bigtable, Cloud Spanner, HBase, or Cassandra.
  • Knowledge of scalability, fault tolerance, and system reliability principles.
  • Familiarity with AI tools or applications.
  • Ability to produce clear, testable, and maintainable code.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with engineers and product managers.
  • Commitment to using AI responsibly.
  • Familiarity with gRPC or REST.
  • Familiarity with serialization technologies such as Protobuf or MessagePack.
  • Experience building, deploying, or maintaining containerized services on Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of Internet protocols and standards.
  • Security domain knowledge is a plus.
