Director of Data Engineering (U.S. Remote) — Grüns

Lead Grüns’ enterprise data platform for its nutrition gummies business. Set the architecture, scale reliable pipelines, establish governance, and guide an AI-enabled data engineering team.

Description

  • Set the data roadmap and enterprise data model to create a trusted source of truth for core business information
  • Modernize legacy jobs and reduce technical debt to support business growth
  • Ensure pipelines remain resilient while data stays accurate, reliable, and accessible
  • Control warehouse and infrastructure spending as data volumes increase
  • Manage intake and sprint planning, ranking work by business value
  • Develop a small team through code reviews, ongoing feedback, and defined growth paths
  • Integrate enterprise applications, including ERP systems, with the data warehouse
  • Embed AI agents into development, incident analysis, and data quality workflows
  • Establish a mature enterprise data function with cleaner models and less technical debt

Requirements

  • At least eight years of experience in data architecture or data engineering
  • At least three years of experience managing teams
  • Experience building and scaling cloud data platforms such as BigQuery
  • Advanced SQL and Python skills, plus dbt or a comparable data modeling framework
  • Extensive data modeling experience that begins with business concepts and translates them into tables
  • Experience establishing data quality, governance, and monitoring practices
  • Experience managing sprint-based intake and prioritization for teams supporting multiple stakeholders
  • Familiarity with ELT tools such as Fivetran and Orbitrail, as well as enterprise systems
  • ERP experience is advantageous
  • Experience in direct-to-consumer or consumer packaged goods environments is preferred
