Criminal Justice Programs Director - Oregon DHS, Salem Hybrid

Lead Oregon’s criminal justice programs, grants, policy work, and public safety partnerships. Oversee staff, budgets, compliance, and statewide initiatives within a hybrid role based in Salem.

Description

  • Lead and evaluate Programs Division staff, projects, policies, and budgets
  • Administer federal and state grant programs
  • Define program priorities, scope, and resource needs
  • Participate on the agency Executive Team
  • Direct the Programs Division
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of related laws, policies, practices, and appropriations
  • Shape Oregon’s public safety system through work with local criminal and juvenile legal systems, the Oregon Judicial Department, Oregon Department of Corrections, Oregon Youth Authority, and community partners
  • Work in the office two to three days each week under the hybrid schedule
  • Work additional office days, evenings, and weekends during legislative and grant selection periods
  • Travel throughout Oregon as program requirements dictate

Requirements

  • At least seven years of supervisory, management, or progressively related experience, or four years of related experience plus a bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • A related degree in criminal justice, legal studies, public administration, behavioral or social sciences, or a closely related discipline
  • Experience in criminal or juvenile justice, or at the intersection of these systems and behavioral health
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with public safety and community partners inside and outside the organization
  • Ability to use research on effective interventions to strengthen criminal justice policy and practice
  • Professional knowledge of criminal law, sentencing policy, and criminal justice systems
  • Professional knowledge of grant administration, process development and implementation, evaluation methods, and compliance monitoring
  • Experience with and knowledge of the Oregon legislative process and public administration
  • Knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements governing executive-branch, public-facing agency operations and compliance
  • Strong public relations capabilities
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • A valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence, maintained throughout employment
  • Successful completion of a computerized criminal history check
  • Successful completion of a CJIS fingerprint-based background check and continued CJIS eligibility
  • Cover letter and resume required
