Cloud Engineer III – Azure Platform (Nebraska Remote)

Build and operate WoodmenLife’s secure Azure platform for life insurance operations. Lead landing zones, governance, automation, observability, cost management, and hybrid cloud engineering.

Description

  • Design and engineer complex Microsoft Azure platform solutions that meet enterprise architecture standards
  • Own and enhance Azure identity, networking, governance, and DevOps platform domains
  • Connect hybrid cloud environments through Azure networking and identity services
  • Create Infrastructure as Code with Bicep, PowerShell, and Azure CLI
  • Strengthen Azure Landing Zone governance, identity, networking, and security capabilities
  • Establish and operationalize cloud standards, engineering patterns, and guardrails
  • Improve platform observability through Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights
  • Drive cloud cost optimization and financial transparency through tagging, budgeting, and usage analytics
  • Monitor, assess, and optimize cloud resource utilization and platform performance
  • Create CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps and Git-based workflows
  • Develop AI-assisted automation frameworks for provisioning, monitoring, and operational processes
  • Create reusable templates, scripts, and modules that enable self-service platform capabilities
  • Integrate governance controls, policy enforcement, and configuration management into automation workflows
  • Coach Systems Engineers and other technical colleagues
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute knowledge, documentation, tools, and best practices to the Cloud Center of Excellence
  • Apply Azure governance controls, including Azure Policy, RBAC, and structured resource organization
  • Support Entra ID identity governance and least-privilege access models
  • Lead cloud Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning and delivery
  • Build resilient, highly available solutions using availability zones, automated failover, and cloud-native backups
  • Assess emerging Azure, AI, and automation capabilities and recommend platform improvements
  • Advise teams on cloud engineering standards and modern architectural practices

Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work full time in the United States; WoodmenLife does not provide work visa sponsorship

  • At least 10 years of progressive IT infrastructure or platform engineering experience, including recent sustained hands-on work designing and operating enterprise Azure environments
  • Advanced Infrastructure as Code expertise, preferably with Bicep, plus strong scripting and automation capabilities
  • Advanced experience with Windows/Linux, Entra ID/Active Directory, and hybrid networking
  • Experience creating CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps and modern Git workflows
  • Demonstrated experience in cloud cost management, observability, and performance optimization
  • Proven technical leadership and mentoring ability
  • Extensive experience applying Azure Policy, RBAC, and tagging standards
  • Expertise with ExpressRoute, VPN, and Private Endpoints
  • Experience contributing to modernization, migration, and automation programs
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
  • Experience with App Services, Functions, or AKS preferred
  • Recent hands-on Azure platform engineering experience in enterprise environments strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with GitHub Copilot or Azure-native AI capabilities is advantageous
  • Preferred certifications include AZ-305, AZ-400, and AZ-500
  • Employment requires successful completion of applicable criminal background, credit, fingerprint, drug screening, and reference checks
