Business Development Manager, Medical Communications

Win pharmaceutical and biotech clients for a medical communications agency, managing sales cycles and senior Medical Affairs relationships. The role covers California and the wider U.S., with regular field meetings and travel.

Description

  • Acquire pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients for medical communications services.
  • Build relationships with senior Medical Affairs and Medical Information leaders, including Heads, VPs, and Directors.
  • Generate opportunities through targeted outreach, industry connections, networking, and in-person meetings.
  • Lead business development from prospecting and discovery through proposals, negotiation, and closing.
  • Assess client needs and present specialized medical and scientific communications solutions.
  • Represent the organization at relevant pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical communications industry events.
  • Hold regular in-person client meetings and take part in networking and industry events.
  • Travel within California and elsewhere in the U.S. as business needs require.

Requirements

  • Bring at least five years of business development experience.
  • Have agency-side experience in medical, healthcare, or scientific communications, or a closely related life sciences agency.
  • Show a record of personally generating and closing new B2B business with pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology companies.
  • Have direct experience working with senior stakeholders in Medical Affairs and/or Medical Information.
  • Understand how pharmaceutical and biotech companies work with external medical communications agency partners.
  • Have experience developing new accounts.
  • Demonstrate strong consultative selling, relationship-building, presentation, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Be self-directed and commercially minded.
  • Work effectively in a remote environment.
  • Currently reside in California.
  • Be willing to travel within California and elsewhere in the U.S. as business needs require.
  • Have a reliable computer, high-speed internet, webcam, headset, and professional workspace.
  • Complete the application form, pre-screening questionnaire, and one-way video interview.
  • Undergo a background check if shortlisted.
  • Experience limited to pharmaceutical product sales, brand management, commercial marketing, or selling unrelated services to pharmaceutical companies does not independently satisfy the requirements.
