988 Text and Chat Crisis Counselor – Pennsylvania Remote
Provide crisis counseling by text and chat through CarePoint Response’s nonprofit 988 system. Assess suicide risk, intervene, connect people with resources, and escalate safety concerns.
Description
- Answer incoming messages promptly on the 988 Lifeline platform, using active listening, empathy, and evidence-based crisis intervention.
- Assess suicide risk and alert supervisors or emergency services when situations require escalation.
- Maintain professional boundaries and provide culturally humble, trauma-informed support.
- Connect people with local mental health care, shelter, substance use treatment, and other resources.
- Record each interaction accurately and promptly in electronic records.
- Take part in supervision, debriefings, and training.
- Protect confidentiality and follow HIPAA and 988 Lifeline standards.
- Provide timely responses to incoming text and chat messages through the 988 Lifeline platform.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong typing ability.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Crisis de-escalation skills.
- Ability to support diverse people, including LGBTQIA+ individuals, young people, and people experiencing active mental health or substance-related crises.
- Reliable internet service and access to a private, quiet workspace.
- Ability to follow HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
- An associate or bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field is preferred.
- Bilingual or multilingual ability is preferred.
