Senior Accounting Manager - Adi Development Group (Hybrid, Burlington)

Lead close, project accounting, construction draws, and finance transformation for a Canadian real estate developer and builder while scaling accounting systems and processes.

Tavsif

  • Report to the Controller and manage daily accounting across corporate and project entities
  • Lead, develop, and set objectives for the accounting team in line with department strategy
  • Maintain development plans and train team members on systems and accounting standards
  • Manage month-end and year-end close, including judgment entries, financial statements, reporting packages, joint arrangements, and related-entity investments
  • Review intercompany billings and settlements and oversee monthly balance-sheet reconciliations
  • Review weekly bank reconciliations and monthly debt reconciliations while keeping debt schedules current
  • Oversee corporate accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, HST returns, and supporting schedules
  • Oversee project accounting for job costs, budgets, commitments, change orders, actual costs, and cost-to-complete estimates
  • Prepare capitalized interest and cost entries and verify proper accounting for statutory holdbacks
  • Review occupancy and final closings and prepare revenue and cost-of-sales recognition
  • Manage accounts payable, approve payment runs, and ensure the monthly AP close is completed on time
  • Manage monthly construction draws for active projects, review draw packages, escalate cost-monitor issues, and ensure lender and partner funding is delivered
  • Review receivables, cash receipts, purchaser deposits, occupancy fee billing, closing adjustments, HST rebates, partner billings, and rental receivables while managing collection escalations
  • Lead audit fieldwork, prepare judgment-area analyses, assemble working papers, and serve as the day-to-day external-auditor contact
  • Resolve control deficiencies and maintain documentation for internal financial-reporting controls
  • Manage the compliance calendar, review HST returns and rebate claims, and ensure corporate returns are filed on schedule
  • Prepare tax-planning schedules, regulatory and lender filings, and covenant calculations
  • Review and approve payroll, source-deduction remittances, and year-end filings
  • Advance lean accounting, process standardization, and continuous improvement across close, draws, AP, reconciliations, and reporting
  • Implement AI for invoice intake, reconciliations, working papers, and recurring reporting, and measure the results
  • Support finance ERP implementation through chart-of-accounts design, process definition, migration validation, user acceptance testing, and cutover
  • Use Power Query and Power BI to improve manually prepared reporting
  • Document procedures, close checklists, and reconciliation templates
  • Prepare monthly inputs for budgets, rolling forecasts, and cash-flow models, including variance commentary

Talablar

  • CPA designation completed; candidates still pursuing the designation are not considered
  • At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2 or more years leading and developing a team
  • Experience leading accountants while personally preparing financial statements, reporting packages, and covenant calculations
  • Experience establishing and scaling a finance and accounting function
  • Full-cycle close and financial statement experience with responsibility for issuance
  • Real estate development or construction accounting experience preferred, including multi-entity structures, job costing, development cost capitalization, holdbacks, construction draws, construction loan accounting, and Construction Act prompt-payment compliance
  • Public accounting training preferred, especially audit or assurance experience with a Big Four or national firm
  • Experience with multi-entity and intercompany accounting; consolidation, joint venture, or partnership accounting is an asset
  • Working knowledge of corporate tax and HST in a development business
  • Experience owning payroll, including source deductions, remittances, and year-end filings
  • Experience managing accounts payable and monthly construction draws, including holdbacks, statutory declarations, and lien compliance
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills, including Power Query
  • Lean accounting experience focused on removing waste, reducing variation, and standardizing processes, with the ability to demonstrate changes in cycle times
  • Demonstrated use of AI in daily workflows with quantified savings
  • Experience with Sage 300 CRE, Sage Intacct, Yardi, TimberScan, or a comparable construction or real estate ERP preferred
  • Finance or ERP implementation experience is a significant asset
  • Sound judgment in maintaining technical accounting positions under pressure and explaining them to non-financial audiences
