Senior Data Platform Engineering Manager

Descriere

  • Lead the team responsible for the enterprise data platform.
  • Ensure platform performance, reliability, security, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Oversee the selection, implementation, operation, and ongoing improvement of technologies for data storage, processing, and movement.
  • Manage database engineers, including assigning priorities, performance management, one-to-ones, and reviews.
  • Build team expertise across relational, NoSQL, and analytics platforms, automation, infrastructure as code, and GitOps.
  • Schedule on-call rotations and maintain escalation coverage.
  • Manage operational data stores across OLTP and NoSQL platforms.
  • Oversee data transformation and movement with ADF and Airflow, including replacement approaches for HVR and SSIS.
  • Operate the analytical data platform, including OneLake and its Bronze, Silver, and Gold tiers.
  • Choose technologies and manage platform reliability, performance, cost, licensing, and capacity.
  • Set standards for GitOps schema management, infrastructure provisioning, and lifecycle automation.
  • Write and review T-SQL, PowerShell, and infrastructure-as-code templates using Terraform and Azure DevOps.
  • Move team workflows from manual execution to self-service, including database change management and automated environment refreshes.
  • Promote Claude and other LLM tools for schema documentation, data lineage, query optimization, and automation.
  • Design, implement, and administer the data platform estate, serving as its final technical escalation point.
  • Plan redundancy and high availability, execute failovers, and test high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Set Dynatrace monitoring standards, tune performance, and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Review post-incident reports and ensure remediation is completed.
  • Enforce data classification, PII handling, retention, audit compliance, and data security requirements.
  • Review and approve change records before implementation.
  • Lead evaluations of tools and vendors.
  • Coordinate capacity planning, budgets, and staffing with the Director.
  • Represent the data platform in cross-functional work with DevOps, Application Engineering, Security, and Analytics.
  • Explain technology trade-offs and platform risks to Director and VP-level leaders.
  • Prepare investment proposals involving significant budgets or operational risks.

Cerințe

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, data engineering, or a related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer (DP-600), Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-203), Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300), or equivalent certifications are strongly preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in database administration, data engineering, or data platform operations.
  • At least 5 years in a team lead, supervisory, or management role with direct people-management responsibilities.
  • Hands-on experience with more than one database platform.
  • Strong expertise in SQL Server, Azure SQL, and Managed Instance, plus practical experience with at least one of Postgres, MySQL, Cosmos, or Mongo.
  • Experience with database redundancy and high availability, such as Always On, geo-replication, or equivalent approaches.
  • Cloud data platform experience with Azure SQL, Fabric, or Databricks, as well as ETL/ELT.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools, including Terraform, Azure DevOps, and PowerShell.
  • Experience automating database provisioning and schema deployment.
  • Expert-level knowledge of SQL Server 2016–2022, Azure SQL, and Managed Instance.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric.
  • Familiarity with relational and NoSQL platforms outside the Microsoft ecosystem.
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT patterns and tools, including Azure Data Factory, SSIS, Fabric pipelines, HVR, and Databricks.
  • Experience with Terraform, Azure DevOps, Git-based workflows, PowerShell, and Python.
  • Repository and GitOps skills sufficient to review and guide infrastructure-as-code contributions.
  • Experience with Dynatrace monitoring.
  • Knowledge of NYDFS Part 500, SOC audit compliance, and PII handling.
  • Availability to participate in a scheduled on-call rotation is mandatory.
  • Experience using Claude or other LLMs in data engineering is preferred.
  • Experience designing and operating data systems in regulated industries is preferred.
