Residential Counselor, Developmental Disabilities

Support people with developmental disabilities in Vinfen residential programs through daily living assistance, independence training, and community inclusion.

Apraksts

  • Provide one-to-one and group support to residents in a residential program.
  • Teach skills that build independence, self-advocacy, and quality of life.
  • Keep the residence clean, safe, and secure.
  • Help residents take part in their communities and build and maintain friendships.
  • Connect residents with community-based supports and resources.
  • Organize recreation and social activities that encourage inclusion and emotional well-being.
  • Help residents make choices and direct their supports and lives.
  • Help residents access assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
  • Encourage participation in work, volunteering, and community activities.
  • Train and support residents in behavioral strategies, fire and safety rules, appointment scheduling, money management, daily living skills, shopping, meal planning, cooking, and household tasks.
  • Provide hands-on assistance and transportation as needed.
  • Assess residents’ physical and emotional well-being and report changes to a supervisor.
  • Track residents’ funds.
  • Keep records, gather behavioral and academic data, write progress notes, and document incidents and activities.
  • Handle medication procurement, storage, administration, documentation, and disposal in line with MAP requirements and applicable regulations.
  • Coordinate with program nurses, case managers, and Visiting Nurses Association representatives.
  • Attend required training and staff meetings.
  • Follow applicable regulatory policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Perform housekeeping, snow removal, trash disposal, and home maintenance.
  • Complete communication and community membership logs, along with activity schedules.
  • Cover shifts at other homes or programs when assigned.
  • Advocate for residents’ human rights and provide physical intervention or first aid in emergencies.
  • Help develop, carry out, and document treatment plans, ISP/PSTPs, and clinical programs.
  • Carry out other related duties as required.

Prasības

  • Applicants with at least one year of related experience or training are preferred.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • In some cases, experience may replace academic training.
  • Driving is required, using either a Vinfen van or a personal vehicle.
  • Personal vehicle drivers must maintain adequate insurance and a safe driving record, subject to annual checks.
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license must be presented upon hire.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
  • Applicants must have held a valid U.S. driver’s license for at least six months.
  • Applicants must pass a driver screening background check.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, lift at least 25 pounds, and assist residents with daily living tasks.
  • Must be able to use a computer and office equipment, including a calculator, copier, and printer.
  • Must communicate effectively in speech and writing.
  • CPR certification is required within two weeks of hire.
  • First Aid certification is required within two weeks of hire.
  • MAP certification is required within 150 days of hire.
  • PBS Tier 1 certification is required within 150 days of hire.
  • Safety Care certification is required within 90 days of hire.
  • Must understand advocacy, communication, empowerment, self-advocacy, participatory planning, personal and household management, and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Must work professionally and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be sensitive to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues.
