Waterfront Structural Engineering Intern

Join Moffatt & Nichol as a structural engineering intern supporting waterfront infrastructure projects. Contribute to drawings, calculations, inspections, reports, and marine structure design.

Description

  • Contribute to project teams as an entry-level structural engineering intern
  • Analyze and design waterfront and marine infrastructure, including piers, wharves, bulkheads, seawalls, offshore platforms, dolphins, catwalks, utility supports, drainage structures, retaining walls, towers, and foundations
  • Apply timber, structural steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, aluminum, and composite materials in design work
  • Assist with preparing plans, specifications, calculations, and technical reports
  • Support design problem-solving through field investigations, inspections, detailed design, computation checks, and coordination
  • Prepare construction quantity estimates
  • Work with architects, engineers, scientists, and project managers on multidisciplinary assignments
  • Conduct structural and construction site inspections and document findings in inspection reports
  • Assist construction administration by reviewing shop drawings and technical submittals
  • Develop basic drawings, models, calculations, data sets, or code with direct supervision

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis
  • Entering the final year of a qualified Bachelor’s degree program after the summer employment period
  • Master’s degree study is preferred
  • Completed coursework in Engineering Materials
  • Completed coursework in Structural Analysis
  • Completed at least one materials design course, such as reinforced concrete or structural steel
  • Working toward an EIT certification or already holding one, preferably
  • Previous related internship experience is preferred but not required
  • Field investigation experience or capability is preferred
  • Preferred software experience includes AutoCAD, SAP2000, LPile, Mathcad, and Bluebeam
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment, post-offer background check conducted under NIST 800-171 requirements
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States and ability to provide required documentation at hire
