Underwriting Training Program – Richmond Hybrid

Join Markel’s underwriting training program in Richmond, Virginia, and build practical skills in risk analysis, underwriting decisions, data analytics, and insurance technology. Successful completion may lead to eligibility for an underwriting position.

Description

  • Build the ability to assess, analyze, accept, and decline risks in support of Markel’s profitability
  • Work with underwriting leaders, product line managers, colleagues, data analysts, and current or prospective producers
  • Learn and apply underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Develop familiarity with data analytics and digital tools shaping the future of insurance underwriting
  • Become eligible for an underwriting role after successfully completing the training program

Requirements

  • Be a college graduate by June 2027
  • Maintain a minimum 3.00 GPA and strong academic standing
  • Demonstrate strong presentation and leadership capabilities
  • Communicate effectively and build strong interpersonal relationships
  • Analyze complex issues, exercise sound judgment, and make recommendations in a fast-paced setting
  • Show initiative, energy, decisiveness, and an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Manage time effectively across competing priorities
  • Use computers confidently, including the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bring a competitive mindset and a strong motivation to succeed
  • Be available to begin employment in June 2027
  • Be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship
