Bodily Injury Claims Adjuster

Handle represented auto bodily injury claims for Kemper, investigating liability, reviewing medical records, and negotiating settlements. The role covers complex claims, including severe and fatal injuries.

Description

  • Investigate coverage and liability thoroughly.
  • Prepare coverage letters when needed.
  • Evaluate and resolve moderate to severe bodily injury claims, including fatal cases, and promptly review and respond to all demands, including time-limited demands.
  • Gather and analyze complex medical records and related data.
  • Research and apply the laws relevant to claims in multiple states.
  • Submit large loss reports and refer cases to the home office on time when appropriate.
  • Present high-exposure cases to senior claims management.
  • Set loss reserves promptly and monitor whether they remain adequate.
  • Negotiate settlements professionally with claimants and attorneys.
  • Adjust policies for uninsured and underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) claims.
  • Work from an office in Doral or Lake Mary, Florida; Birmingham, Alabama; Downers Grove, Illinois; or Richardson or McAllen, Texas.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least three years of casualty claims experience in the auto insurance industry.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
  • Obtain and maintain any state-required licenses, where applicable.
  • Show initiative, sound judgment, and discretion.
  • Thorough understanding of insurance policies and relevant state laws and regulations for auto claims.
  • Manage time effectively to meet claim resolution deadlines.
  • Strong analytical ability to assess claim details and damages and determine liability and settlement amounts.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills for working with varied stakeholders.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills to resolve disputes and reach agreements.
