Staff Embedded Platform Engineer at Ford

Lead embedded platform architecture for Ford’s next-generation electric vehicle ECUs. Build RTOS, drivers, middleware, networking, and functional-safety software for automotive systems.

Description

  • Own the architecture and roadmap for real-time drivers, embedded RTOS configuration, and shared platform middleware across vehicle programs.
  • Partner with systems, application, and safety teams to build and maintain platform-wide common libraries.
  • Set consistent standards for embedded development, safety-critical design, and low-level software quality.
  • Coach engineers in embedded architecture, functional safety principles, and low-level driver development.
  • Configure and tune real-time drivers and embedded RTOS environments for deterministic automotive applications.
  • Create low-level drivers and middleware that provide hardware abstraction for application software.
  • Design memory layouts that balance real-time performance, resource limits, and functional-safety needs.
  • Architect and implement CAN, LIN, automotive Ethernet, SPI, and I2C networking stacks.
  • Improve network-stack throughput, latency, and determinism across safety-relevant communication paths.
  • Coordinate with systems and hardware teams on networking designs and hardware-software interfaces.
  • Apply ISO 26262 functional-safety principles to platform architecture, memory design, and driver implementation.
  • Maintain compliance with MISRA C and safety-critical software engineering practices.
  • Work with safety and V&V teams to align platform designs with safety goals and ASIL requirements.

  • Substantial hands-on experience programming in Embedded C.
  • Experience following MISRA C coding standards.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 26262 functional-safety processes for embedded architecture and development.
  • Practical experience developing and debugging CAN, LIN, and other automotive communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with embedded debugging tools such as JTAG and GDB.
  • Demonstrated experience configuring embedded RTOS platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience building low-level drivers and middleware for automotive-grade microcontrollers.
  • Familiarity with Renode or similar embedded testing frameworks, along with build systems such as Bazel.
  • Experience using automotive testing and network-analysis tools including CANoe, CANalyzer, and CANape.
  • Experience developing or integrating software for real-time control systems.
  • Familiarity with automotive Ethernet, SPI, and I2C.
