Software Development Manager - Edmonton Hybrid

Lead engineering teams at LawDepot, guiding delivery for its legal-document platform and internal CMS. Drive technical quality, AI-enabled development, reliable releases, and developer growth.

Description

  • Lead the developers building LawDepot’s contract platform and internal CMS editing experience
  • Set technical direction and turn business priorities into dependable software delivery
  • Manage Software Developers and Scrum Masters
  • Establish expectations, coach team members, support performance and career development, and foster shared accountability for delivery and production quality
  • Work with Product Owners and stakeholders to define strategy and technical roadmaps
  • Clear delivery blockers and direct teams toward high-impact priorities
  • Explain technical context, risks, dependencies, and trade-offs in business terms
  • Choose architectures and technologies that support business objectives and future scalability
  • Oversee schedules, scope, estimates, dependencies, risks, and delivery commitments
  • Use AI for technical research, prototyping, code reviews, test creation, documentation, and delivery analysis
  • Help developers adopt effective AI-assisted engineering practices
  • Improve engineering practices across web applications, APIs, data models, automated testing, CI/CD, security, and production troubleshooting
  • Oversee releases, rollout readiness, rollback plans, incident response, technical quality, and the removal of obsolete code or feature flags
  • Enable website experimentation in partnership with Product and Analytics
  • Contribute to hiring, onboarding, daily operations, and people management
  • Partner with leaders across Product, UX, QA, Architecture, and Information Systems

Requirements

  • Post-secondary qualification in Computing Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline
  • At least 2 years leading software development teams and supporting developer performance, growth, and delivery
  • At least 7 years working in software development, architecture, or technical delivery
  • Experience overseeing projects, processes, priorities, and technical delivery within a software development environment
  • Sound technical judgment across web applications, APIs, data models, automated testing, CI/CD, security, and production troubleshooting
  • Practical experience using AI platforms, agents, or related tools in software engineering
  • Ability to assess AI-generated work, recognize risks, and guide others on when human judgment is essential
  • Business acumen with the ability to connect technical choices to company priorities and operational results
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional business stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including explaining trade-offs, negotiating scope, and aligning stakeholders
  • Familiarity with Agile practices and cross-functional software delivery
  • Experience with TypeScript or JavaScript, C#/.NET, Vue, SQL Server, and Entity Framework Core is an asset
  • Experience creating reusable AI workflows, engineering playbooks, or developer enablement practices is an asset
  • Familiarity with Model Context Protocol or comparable approaches is an asset
  • Experience leading AI adoption, technical transformation, or wider change-management initiatives is an asset
  • Ability to work permanently in Canada, as required by the application question
