Senior Vehicle Dynamics State Estimation Safety Engineer

General Motors is seeking a senior engineer to lead functional safety for vehicle dynamics state estimation systems. The role covers requirements, safety analysis, simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, vehicle validation, and cross-functional technical leadership.

Description

  • Lead development and completion of the vehicle dynamics state estimation safety case for GM vehicle programs
  • Establish functional and performance requirements in partnership with engineering and product teams
  • Conduct hazard, fault tree, interface, FMEA, and related safety analyses
  • Support implementation of new requirements and their rollout across affected organizations
  • Maintain requirements alignment and end-to-end traceability
  • Verify requirements through analysis, simulation, hardware-in-the-loop benches, and vehicle testing
  • Apply model-based systems engineering to strengthen traceability, design quality, and variant management
  • Act as GM’s subject matter expert for vehicle dynamics state estimation
  • Guide technology direction, integration approaches, and issue resolution
  • Travel less than 25%

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, physics, or a related discipline
  • At least five years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in systems engineering or functional safety
  • Experience developing or integrating embedded control systems
  • Knowledge of ISO 26262 or another functional safety standard, including IEC 61508, IEC 62304, or DO-178C
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate test vehicles when required
  • Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future
  • Legal ability to operate a motor vehicle regularly and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Report review
  • Preferred experience developing vehicle dynamics products such as braking, steering, or suspension systems
  • Preferred experience with vehicle dynamics state estimation systems, controls architecture, or software
  • Preferred experience owning an automotive functional safety case across its full lifecycle
  • Preferred understanding of distributed, networked, real-time control systems
