Senior Regional Rail Engineer - Michigan Remote

Lead railroad infrastructure projects across U.S. regions through technical oversight, project delivery, client development, and team mentorship. Support regional growth through rail engineering leadership, agency coordination, and business development.

Description

  • Provide regional leadership for railroad projects and advance strategic growth initiatives within the assigned region
  • Direct the planning, design, coordination, and delivery of rail projects spanning industrial tracks, terminals, spurs, mainlines, yards, and sidings
  • Coordinate with railroad companies on Department of Transportation and municipal agency projects involving railroad interfaces
  • Act as a senior technical authority for rail design, grading, drainage, and related infrastructure
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, railroad operators, public agencies, and industry partners
  • Contribute to business development through client engagement, proposal preparation, project pursuits, and industry events
  • Mentor engineers, designers, and junior staff while providing technical direction across offices and project teams
  • Support staffing plans, resource allocation, and operational efficiency initiatives
  • Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies across multiple states to maintain regulatory and railroad-standard compliance
  • Lead quality assurance and quality control activities throughout project development and delivery
  • Establish and standardize rail engineering, coordination, design, and project delivery practices
  • Travel periodically for client meetings, site visits, regional coordination, and industry events
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in rail, transit, railroad infrastructure, transportation, or land development engineering
  • Professional Engineer license required
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary rail engineering projects and managing client relationships
  • Strong knowledge of design standards for track, at-grade railroad crossings, grade-separated structures, and utility crossings
  • Experience mentoring technical staff and leading engineering teams across projects or offices preferred
  • Familiarity with CAD platforms and standard engineering software applications
  • Strong business development, communication, leadership, and organizational capabilities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with railroad personnel, clients, agencies, contractors, and internal teams
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
  • Willingness to travel regionally as needed for project delivery and client engagement
