Senior Packaging Category Manager - Remote Virginia

Lead global packaging sourcing for Owens & Minor, managing supplier negotiations, cost models, resilience, sustainability, and margin protection across healthcare products.

Description

  • Own a 12–36-month global category strategy spanning flexible, rigid, corrugated, label, and tertiary packaging
  • Achieve 4–5% savings through innovation, supply chain resilience, supplier management, and commodity volatility planning
  • Partner with Marketing and R&D to improve specifications, cost leverage, operational efficiency, and sustainability performance
  • Create and administer transparent, index-linked contracts that distinguish material costs from conversion costs
  • Direct total-cost analyses covering yield, throughput, transportation efficiency, and disposal impacts
  • Monitor pulp, film, resin, ink, and other raw material trends to support favorable forward purchasing positions
  • Broaden and diversify the supplier base to improve resilience and maintain reliable supply
  • Coordinate with Marketing, R&D, Operations, and Quality on centralized commercial governance and site execution
  • Advance recycled content, lightweighting, and simplified material formats in support of ESG goals
  • Manage and develop regional procurement personnel and a one- to two-person packaging-related supply-spend team
  • Develop should-cost, total-cost, and LPP models that account for yield, scrap, freight, and quality
  • Brief senior leaders on market conditions, supplier results, risk exposure, commodity effects, mitigation plans, and savings opportunities
  • Establish and monitor supplier KPIs for quality, delivery, emissions, and competitiveness

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Packaging Engineering, Business, or another highly analytical related field
  • At least 10 years of progressive global procurement experience
  • Demonstrated success managing complex packaging portfolios in FMCG, chemical, or manufacturing environments
  • Strong knowledge of packaging production methods, including extrusion, blow molding, corrugation, and printing
  • Knowledge of raw-material index mechanisms and advanced strategic sourcing practices
  • Advanced proficiency in should-cost modeling, tooling analysis, and index-based contract structures
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, including data analysis and reporting
  • Experience using ERP platforms such as SAP or Oracle
  • Experience with e-procurement platforms such as Coupa, Ariba, or Rosslyn
  • Ability to manage competing projects and priorities in a fast-paced setting
  • Adaptability when circumstances, information, or challenges change
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Multilingual skills, including Mandarin or Thai, preferred
  • APICS or ISM certification, such as CPIM or CPSM, is a plus
