Senior Nuclear Engineer at Duke Energy – Seneca, SC (Hybrid)

Lead mechanical component reliability, testing, vendor coordination, and regulatory compliance at Duke Energy’s nuclear facility. This hybrid position requires three days onsite each week.

Description

  • Oversee assigned mechanical components to support equipment reliability and fulfillment of program commitments
  • Act as the site’s subject matter expert for designated components
  • Track, analyze, and trend equipment performance
  • Work with vendors on equipment repairs and refurbishment activities
  • Lead onsite testing and troubleshoot emerging equipment issues
  • Partner with Design, Maintenance, Operations, and other teams on technical concerns, schedules, budgets, and related matters
  • Ensure adherence to NRC requirements and applicable industry standards
  • Apply fleet operating experience and industry lessons to enhance component performance
  • Review Preventative Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance program results and recommend changes
  • Report to the Maintenance Support Engineering Manager
  • Conduct plant observation activities and travel occasionally
  • Support occasional weekend and overtime needs

Requirements

  • For Nuclear Engineer III, hold a bachelor's degree in Engineering, excluding Technology, from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university; a master's degree in engineering may substitute for the bachelor's degree
  • For Nuclear Engineer III, have at least four years of engineering experience
  • For Senior Nuclear Engineer, hold a bachelor's degree in Engineering, excluding Technology, from an ABET-accredited four-year college or university; a master's degree in engineering may substitute for the bachelor's degree
  • For Senior Nuclear Engineer, have at least six years of engineering experience, or five years with state registration as a Professional Engineer
  • Have at least one year of nuclear power plant experience
  • Have at least four years of engineering experience
  • Meet ANSI personnel qualification requirements under Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011 and Regulatory Guide 1.8
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States without employment-based immigration sponsorship now or later
  • Be able to fulfill potential Emergency Response Organization duties, including site callouts, on-call rotations, and Fit for Duty requirements
  • Preferred: 10 or more years of direct component experience
  • Preferred: extensive experience with machine vibration analysis and signature interpretation
  • Preferred: Professional Engineer registration
  • Be proficient in researching engineering and design issues, assessing alternatives, developing recommendations, and presenting findings
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Have utility industry experience
  • Have commercial nuclear plant experience
  • Be able to commute no more than 50 miles one way to the designated Duke Energy facility
  • Be available for occasional weekend or overtime work and 5–15% travel
