Senior Fundraising Software Engineer (Remote, United States)
GiveDirectly is seeking a senior software engineer to strengthen fundraising systems and donor experiences. The role covers Laravel, PHP, Salesforce, WordPress, and data integrations supporting global poverty relief.
Description
- Build and improve engineering systems that support fundraising and donor satisfaction
- Help fundraisers ensure donations are captured accurately and begin their secure journey to recipients
- Explain to donors and the public how their contributions are used and delivered
- Create and maintain websites, fundraising infrastructure, and related integrations
- Partner closely with fundraising teams on technical work
- Independently define, build, test, release, and maintain solutions
- Resolve defects and troubleshoot legacy code, including code written by other engineers
- Take ownership of incidents and coordinate with fundraisers during high-volume donation periods
- Use Laravel, PHP, plain JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Salesforce, WordPress, SQL, and partner-supplied CSV data
- Partner with non-engineering colleagues on ambiguous, fast-changing, and imperfectly defined work
Requirements
- Must have the right to work in a country where GiveDirectly hires
- Fluent English communication skills
- At least four years of engineering experience
- Availability for remote meetings that overlap with East Africa Time and US Eastern Time
- Willingness to travel a few weeks each year to meet colleagues in the US, Europe, and Africa
- Working familiarity with Laravel, PHP, plain JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Salesforce, WordPress, SQL, and CSV data; expertise in every technology is not required
- Ability to work independently by defining tasks, testing and releasing changes, resolving bugs, and maintaining momentum
- Availability for on-call support during peak donation days, with responsibility for incident ownership, fundraiser communication, and legacy-code debugging
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate directly with non-engineers on ambiguous, quickly changing work
- Successful completion of a take-home coding exercise, live coding session, systems design interview, and project deep dive or behavioral interviews
- Alignment with GiveDirectly's mission and values
- Willingness to complete background, reference, criminal background, sanctions, and safeguarding checks if required
