Property Adjuster - Ohio Remote

Investigate, estimate, and resolve homeowners’ property claims across Northeast Ohio for Erie Insurance Group. Inspect damage, determine coverage, and support catastrophe response.

Description

  • Handle property claims independently within assigned authority
  • Manage claims throughout the assigned territory through resolution
  • Communicate with policyholders about property claims
  • Investigate claims, interview insureds and witnesses, inspect damage, and prepare estimates
  • Assess claim coverage and provide coverage recommendations
  • Establish and maintain appropriate reserves
  • Collect and evaluate reports, statements, records, and related documentation
  • Determine coverage decisions and total claim values
  • Calculate payments, issue checks, or decline payment when appropriate
  • Maintain complete claim files and submit closure reports
  • Recognize subrogation opportunities and take appropriate action
  • Work with agents and district sales managers
  • Manage claims involving property damage or coverage issues, including potentially litigated matters
  • Negotiate with plaintiff attorneys or coordinate with defense counsel as needed
  • Build and apply expertise in property-claim estimating practices and procedures
  • Attend industry training on policy changes, interpretation, and legislation
  • Complete Technical Learning Center Training within one year of hire
  • Serve on the Catastrophe Team when required
  • Complete the 15-week Property Adjuster Trainee program, including classroom, hands-on, field, mentoring, and supervisory training

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required for the Property Adjuster Trainee role
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred for the Property Adjuster Trainee role
  • Property Adjuster I requires a high school diploma or GED plus two years of claims experience or equivalent, a high school diploma or GED plus successful completion of ERIE-sponsored formal education, or a bachelor’s degree
  • Property Adjuster II requires a high school diploma or GED plus five years of claims experience or equivalent, or a bachelor’s degree plus two years of claims experience or equivalent
  • Live within the assigned territory unless the company approves an exception
  • Drive and travel regularly throughout the assigned territory
  • Serve on catastrophe duty, including possible short-notice travel to other locations for more than two consecutive weeks
  • Pursue and complete Technical Learning Center Training
  • AIC 33 and AIC 35 completion is preferred
  • Obtain and maintain any required licenses
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record
  • Use required personal protective equipment
  • Move more than 50 pounds with lifting-assist equipment
  • Climb and access elevated locations
  • Perform frequent driving, lifting or moving, and computer-based work
