Product Development Engineer, Dynamic Sealing Systems – Ford Hybrid

Develop and launch dynamic sealing systems for Ford vehicles in a hybrid engineering role. Coordinate supplier reviews, validation, production launches, cost targets, and quality improvements.

Description

  • Design and release dynamic sealing systems that satisfy cost, quality, weight, and delivery objectives.
  • Use DFMEA, DFM, DVP&R, CAE/FEA, SCCAF, SC/CC, 8D, root-cause analysis, product development, and testing methods.
  • Analyze seal gaps and door-closing effort, and perform wind-noise, dust-ingress, and water-management testing.
  • Create ESOW documents and engineering concepts while supporting sourcing activities.
  • Investigate and resolve issues involving interfacing components.
  • Lead sealing-supplier design reviews and confirm that system specifications are established and achieved.
  • Lead FMA development and maintain engineering documentation, including DFMEA and SCCAF.
  • Approve eCAD drawings with GD&T and DVP&R testing requirements.
  • Maintain validated roadmaps for AVBOM, cost objectives, and identified design gaps.
  • Release parts through AVBOM, Change Control, and WERS across the product life cycle.
  • Deliver DPA, P-Release, FDJ/FEC/PEC, and build-event milestones on schedule.
  • Audit and revise prototype-build BOMs, then maintain them after Job 1.
  • Support production issue resolution, cost-reduction work, and quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with Ford cross-functional teams and suppliers to achieve program milestones and cost objectives.
  • Provide launch assistance and travel when required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, applications, design, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience with elastomers such as rubber and plastic, material specification and selection, weather-sealing systems, vehicle integration, and build-variation processes.
  • Advanced product-design and analytical experience involving sealing energy, weather-seal manufacturing, extrusion, and injection molding.
  • Working knowledge of significant and critical characteristics (SC/CC) for dynamic-seal requirements and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis capabilities.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, internet tools, CATIA v6/3DX, and Teamcenter.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Proactive approach with the judgment to escalate emerging issues.
  • Willingness to provide launch support and travel as needed.
  • Ability to work independently in a complex product-development environment.
  • Ability to manage the supply base’s daily activities.
  • Ability to collaborate with Ford Program Management, Cost Estimating, Engineering, Materials, Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing.
  • Ability to perform effectively under compressed timelines.
  • Manufacturing engineering experience in the weather-sealing industry is preferred.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is unavailable.
