Principal AI Engineer — Jobber (US Remote)

Lead the design and delivery of trustworthy internal AI systems at Jobber, from LLM-powered retrieval and agents to production workflows used across the company. This founding technical role partners with executive and functional leaders to establish AI standards and durable ownership.

Description

  • Design and deliver internal AI systems from initial architecture through production
  • Own retrieval quality, permissions, security, and reliability for trustworthy AI at company scale
  • Apply hands-on expertise across LLMs, retrieval, agents, and integrations
  • Partner with teams and functional leaders across the company
  • Deploy AI in operational workflows while establishing durable systems and ownership
  • Lead build-versus-buy assessments and rapid proofs of concept
  • Decide when technical initiatives should proceed or conclude
  • Collaborate directly with executive leadership
  • Define technical standards for AI across Jobber

Requirements

  • Demonstrated Staff+ experience building production systems, including data infrastructure, retrieval, or applied AI used daily by hundreds or thousands of people
  • Deep practical experience with the modern AI technology stack
  • Experience operating a production AI system that revealed how confidently AI can be wrong
  • Sound technology judgment and the ability to justify technical choices
  • Background as a founding engineer, consultant, or forward-deployed engineer
  • Ability to own outcomes within another team’s domain
  • Regular hands-on use of AI tools and agents
  • Ability to deliver every few weeks while maintaining high standards for trustworthiness
  • Strong communication skills for explaining technical decisions to a CEO
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Successful completion of a background check, including identity verification
  • Willingness to attend one in-person interview at the nearest Jobber office
