Legal Support Assistant | MCAO | Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid)

Support Maricopa County Victim Services and crime victims through case preparation, victim compensation processing, court administration, and responsive communication. The role combines legal clerical work, database research, records processing, and meeting support.

Description

  • Prepare assigned cases and produce the related documentation
  • Coordinate routine administrative and court-support activities
  • Issue notifications required under Victims’ Rights statutes
  • Research case details across databases, police reports, case forms, and court records
  • Explain essential criminal justice information and respond to victims’ questions
  • Retrieve database reminders and distribute them to the appropriate recipients
  • Examine and interpret minute entries and court orders
  • Answer incoming calls, provide general information, direct callers, record detailed messages, and return calls
  • Staff the primary reception desk as needed
  • Gather, maintain, and monitor statistical information
  • Record and retrieve case data across multiple databases
  • Prepare, process, and upload post-conviction documents
  • Process and maintain Victim Information Forms
  • Support document redaction activities
  • Operate the letter-folding equipment
  • Prepare mailing packets for distribution
  • Sort, review, and distribute incoming mail
  • Process and document Victim Compensation Delinquency claims and applications
  • Record applications in the specialized system and establish or assign Victim Compensation cases
  • Prepare for and attend monthly Victim Compensation Board meetings, including recording decisions
  • Follow Victim Compensation Program compliance requirements
  • Draft Victim Compensation Board minutes and update or publish Public Notices
  • Fulfill grant obligations and meet program deadlines
  • Work alongside a trained canine that provides comfort to victims

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience handling specialized clerical responsibilities
  • High school diploma or GED credential
  • Post-secondary education can replace the required experience year for year
  • Hold a valid Arizona driver’s license when hired
  • Complete a comprehensive background check
  • Complete drug testing after an offer and before placement
  • Work accurately and efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced setting
  • Demonstrate close attention to detail and maintain 90% accuracy
  • Travel between county locations for meetings and training using a personal or county vehicle
  • Lift, carry, or move items weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Fluent English and Spanish reading, writing, and speaking skills are valued
  • Clerical experience in a law office, judicial setting, or law enforcement environment is valued
  • Customer service experience in a law office, judicial setting, or law enforcement environment is valued
