Data Engineer II — Remote

Cincinnati Children’s seeks a remote Data Engineer II to build secure data pipelines, models, and analytics infrastructure. The role supports Epic data, stakeholder collaboration, incident resolution, and moderately complex projects.

Description

  • Design, build, test, and manage data pipelines from acquisition through production use.
  • Maintain compliance with data governance and security requirements.
  • Collaborate with platform engineers and database administrators.
  • Develop and manage ETL processes while supporting upgrades and testing.
  • Explore Epic data extraction and analysis for research, regulatory, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Create solutions for benchmarking, process improvement, and analytics needs.
  • Develop data models aligned with CCHMC strategies.
  • Work with customers and reporting and analytics teams to deliver scalable, efficient solutions.
  • Document data models and extraction procedures.
  • Automate repeatable data preparation and integration work.
  • Improve reports, database structures, and extraction methods using established best practices.
  • Coordinate with vendors to support and enhance CCHMC investments and requests.
  • Support end users and monitor service-level agreements for incident management.
  • Advance change management policies and procedures.
  • Follow up with customers promptly and escalate support issues when needed.
  • Collaborate with data science teams, business analysts, and organizational stakeholders.
  • Provide second-level incident and problem resolution.
  • Maintain and improve support documentation.
  • Participate in a rotating 24-hour on-call schedule.
  • Complete project work with urgency and quality.
  • Report project status through departmental project management tools.
  • Participate in project meetings and stand-ups.
  • Act as technical lead for moderately complex projects.
  • Lead project meetings and workgroups.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data management, information systems, information science, or a related quantitative field.
  • At least two years of experience in a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in data management practices or architectures such as data modeling, data warehousing, data lakes, or data hubs.
  • Foundational knowledge of additional data management practices and architectures.
  • Proficiency with SQL.
  • Proficiency with object-oriented or object-function scripting.
  • Proficiency with DevOps principles.
  • Understanding of CCHMC clinical, business, and research processes.
  • Obtain Epic certifications when appropriate or required.
  • Ability to participate in a rotating 24-hour on-call schedule.
  • Preferred: experience working on cross-functional teams and partnering with business stakeholders on departmental or multi-departmental data management and analytics initiatives.
