Community Manager, DEV at Major League Hacking (Remote)

Lead the DEV software developer community at Major League Hacking through moderation, member support, editorial curation, and contributor engagement. The role connects DEV and MLH communities while representing community needs across the organization.

Description

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day steward of the DEV developer community
  • Participate daily on DEV by reading, commenting, reacting, publishing, and understanding its culture and active members
  • Lead DEV moderation, define platform standards, resolve complex cases, and collaborate with volunteer moderators
  • Manage community support channels and inboxes
  • Track prominent contributors, recurring concerns, and developing community issues
  • Direct feedback, bug reports, feature requests, and escalations to the appropriate internal teams
  • Recruit technical writers and developer-community contributors to join the DEV platform
  • Manage or support MLH activity on Reddit and other relevant community channels
  • Develop editorial roundups, newsletters, and email campaigns to curate community content
  • Highlight meaningful contributions, improve content quality, and uphold a consistent brand voice
  • Apply AI tools to speed up community and content workflows while maintaining editorial judgment and quality standards
  • Strengthen ties between the MLH and DEV communities and bring community priorities into MLH

Requirements

  • An active, established DEV community member with a track record of contributing to and participating on the platform
  • An established DEV profile is required
  • Experience with moderation, bot configuration, automation, or helping operate a Discord server
  • Working knowledge of Reddit and other online communities
  • Excellent writing and editing ability
  • Strong judgment when selecting and organizing community content
  • Understanding of how a community-reported GitHub issue progresses from initial report through resolution
  • Sound decision-making in uncertain situations involving moderation, content quality, and support escalations
  • Experience using AI-generated output as a draft that you refine, curate, and adapt
  • Availability for at least four hours of overlap with US Eastern Time each workday
