Associate Technical Engineer - Madison Hybrid

Design and implement cloud-based technology solutions for American Family Insurance. Support architecture standards, system integration, troubleshooting, automation, and continuous improvement.

Description

  • Plan, design, and implement technology solutions in a cloud environment.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop and govern technology architecture standards, guidelines, and patterns.
  • Support the delivery of technology solutions.
  • Report to a senior engineering manager.
  • Help develop, enhance, and maintain tools, systems, and software solutions.
  • Participate in system and solution integration and testing.
  • Help troubleshoot issues involving tools, processes, applications, or infrastructure.
  • Support technology evaluations and re-engineering activities that inform strategy and continuous improvement.
  • Build cross-functional relationships through collaborative engineering operations and initiatives.
  • Implement automation to support development needs.
  • Help develop system and solution measures that confirm full integration.
  • Adapt flexibly to changing system and solution requirements.
  • Work from the Madison, Wisconsin office at least 10 days per month.
  • Attend in-person New Employee Orientation during the first week at the Madison headquarters or an American Family Insurance core location, with virtual delivery possible.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience delivering customer-focused solutions, support, or service.
  • Basic knowledge of system and software design and system deployments.
  • Basic knowledge of software engineering and computer science.
  • Basic knowledge of IT disciplines including development, testing, configuration, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Basic knowledge of infrastructure technologies and application development methodologies.
  • Basic system administration skills, including configuration, installation, patch management, and server maintenance.
  • Knowledge of network management, including firewalls, proxies, IP management, routing, and DNS.
  • Limited experience establishing, using, and supporting integration and communication protocols across applications, databases, and technology platforms.
  • Basic coding knowledge in PowerShell, Shell, Perl, Java, Python, or another programming language.
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering is strongly desired.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Ability to work primarily while sitting or standing.
  • Successful completion of applicable background checks.
  • Willingness to sign a non-disclosure agreement covering proprietary information, trade secrets, and inventions.
