Android Software Engineer - Semperis (Toronto Hybrid)

Build secure Kotlin and Jetpack Compose capabilities for Semperis’s Ready1 mobile incident-response platform. Deliver enterprise identity and cybersecurity workflows through Google Play.

Description

  • Own secure, production-ready Ready1 Android features from initial design through Google Play publication
  • Develop, test, and release native Android functionality in Kotlin
  • Create and modernize Jetpack Compose screens while transitioning legacy RecyclerView and XML components
  • Build and maintain authentication and session management with MSAL, Azure AD B2C, biometrics, and passkeys
  • Connect REST services through Retrofit and OkHttp, including robust loading, failure, retry, and empty states
  • Help maintain routing across multiple regions
  • Contribute to live chat and video functionality using SignalR, WebSockets, and Azure Communication Services
  • Strengthen application structure with Hilt dependency injection, ViewModels, repositories, use cases, and feature-based packages
  • Create unit and UI coverage while keeping pull requests clear, reviewable, and aligned with quality standards
  • Assist with releases through Gradle flavors, signing, Play Console submissions, and post-release crash and log investigation
  • Use secure mobile engineering practices for tokens, secrets, permissions, local storage, logging, and privacy
  • Partner with engineering, product, design, QA, and security to resolve requirements, explain tradeoffs, and deliver maintainable releases

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience delivering production Android applications is typically expected
  • Strong command of Kotlin and core Android SDK concepts
  • Practical experience creating production interfaces with Jetpack Compose
  • Experience with coroutines, Flow, and lifecycle-aware Android design patterns
  • Working knowledge of Jetpack ViewModel and Navigation, plus Gradle-based Android Studio projects
  • Experience connecting REST and JSON services, preferably with Retrofit and OkHttp
  • Ability to diagnose authentication, token renewal, and unreliable network behavior
  • Experience writing unit tests and Android UI tests
  • Familiarity with Git workflows, pull requests, code review, and continuous integration
  • Practical knowledge of mobile security, including protection of tokens, secrets, permissions, and on-device data
  • Strong written and spoken communication, with the ability to turn ambiguous requirements into supportable releases
  • Additional experience with MSAL, Azure AD B2C, OAuth/OIDC, passkeys, WebAuthn, enterprise identity providers, Hilt or Dagger, SignalR, WebSockets, Azure Communication Services, WebRTC, multi-flavor builds, Play App Signing, Crashlytics, cybersecurity products, accessibility, internationalization, feature flags, design systems, native NDK, or C++ modules is advantageous
